Ethan is autistic and has issues with hypermobility. Ethan’s family initially applied to Caudwell Children when he was in Reception at school and we part funded a tricycle which helped Ethan to get around and strengthen his muscles.
Unfortunately, Ethan’s Tricycle was stolen and when found it was severely damaged so once again his family looked to Caudwell Children for help. We supported Ethan’s family through the application process, making things as simple and straightforward as possible.
Now in Year 7 at school, Ethan’s confidence has grown considerably since receiving his new tricycle and has provided him with a much smoother and more comfortable ride. Ethan can also peddle more effectively and can straightening his legs, giving him more of a work out and the opportunity to stretch his muscles without putting too much pressure on his joints. Ethan prefers getting out and about on his tricycle compared to walking, as peddling helps to regulate his sensory needs.
Ethan now loves getting out into the community in all weathers, and wants to use his tricycle come rain or shine. Even Ethan’s sensory dog Benny, loves running behind him on his tricycle.
Ethan’s family said “Without his trike, Ethan wouldn’t be able to exercise regularly, which is an essential part of anyone’s life.”
