Christopher aged 5, is autistic and has been diagnosed with Global Development Delay (GDD) and has a sleep disorder. He loves climbing and being outside but unfortunately has no concept of danger and finds waiting or not being able to do what he wants distressing.
This made getting out of the house with Christopher extremely difficult for his parents. Their days were often filled with meltdowns, leaving his older sister upset because she was missing out and days out had to be repeatedly cancelled.
Visting places like the supermarket had become very limited, as trolleys were no longer suitable to accommodate his size and walking with him just wasn’t an option for the family.
Christopher’s parents contacted Caudwell Children for help with funding towards a specialised buggy. When the buggy arrived, the family’s quality of life was completely transformed. The new buggy creates a safe space for Christopher when he feels distressed or overwhelmed, giving himself the time to self-regulate, which enables the family to enjoy and continue their day out.
Abigail Christopher’s mum said “I recommend that any family struggling should contact Caudwell Children, as they are very efficient and accommodating.
“I’m very grateful to donors and want them to understand that the money they give doesn’t just provide equipment, it gives families a chance of trying to make the most of sometimes very hard situations. Without funding, so many children and families would continue to struggle.”
