Autism Assessment FAQs

Our Autism Assessment Service provides comprehensive and multidisciplinary assessments in accordance with NICE guidelines. Our multi-disciplinary team includes Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Specialist Nurses, Assistant Psychologists and a Paediatrician.  Caudwell Children’s assessments are accepted by schools and the NHS, offering clarity and support for children and their families.

Referrals can be made by health education, or social care professionals that know the child well and agree to the need for autism assessment. Parents/carers are also encouraged to approach professionals with their observations and any concerns to facilitate referrals. Professionals must not be a direct relation of the child they are referring.

Referrals can be made via our secure online referral form. You’ll need to include the child’s information, your observations, and any supporting documentation. For more details, please refer to our referral application requirements

The child must be aged 4-11 years, with a professional referral supporting their application. The child must not have attended an autism assessment previously (unless their previous assessment report clearly indicates the need for further re-assessment or review).

Following a referral:

  1. The referral will be reviewed to ensure it meets the Autism Assessment criteria.
  2. If the family is eligible for charity funding or self-funding, they will be required to make a payment before the assessment can be booked.
  3. Our Applications Team will send paperwork packs to the family and the child’s school. If the family requires support, they can contact our Applications Team.
  4. The family will complete a Risk Support Plan to outline the support needed during the assessment process.
  5. The family will be contacted to schedule the child’s two-day Autism Assessment.

Our assessments are available as self-funded at £2,500 or 80% charity-funded options starting from £500. Payments can be made instalments before booking the assessment day.

Caudwell Children do not offer second opinions on assessments; this would need to be sought from another provider. However, in cases where a previous assessment identified the need for further assessment or review, or identified an inconclusive outcome, Caudwell Children can offer reassessment in these cases. In addition, if a child’s previous assessment was completed prior to the age of 6 years and there is considerable time and changes since the previous assessment, this would also be considered for reassessment.

Yes, our assessments are fully compliant with NICE guidelines and therefore recognised by schools and the NHS.
