Seven-year-old Teddy is autistic, non-speaking, and has learning disabilities along with sensory processing difficulties. He finds joy in sensory toys, playing with water and sand, but right now, his biggest interest is donkeys!
Previously, Teddy’s mum, Kirsty, received an Autism Sensory Pack from Caudwell Children, and she needed to seek help again. Teddy’s family had been finding weekends and school holidays difficult, as he prefers routine and loves going to school, but when it’s closed, he struggles to understand why. Without access to the specialised sensory equipment at school, he finds it difficult to regulate his sensory needs.
Kirsty discovered that Caudwell Children provides families with large tactile equipment, something they wouldn’t have been able to afford on their own. Since receiving this equipment, Teddy has been calmer and more engaged, happily playing for up to 15 minutes at a time.
“Teddy’s emotional moments have reduced massively because the equipment provides a much-needed distraction,” Kirsty shared. “He has even let us join in with him, which is amazing!”
The sensory panel, with its variety of interactive features, black light, and UV toys, has captivated Teddy’s attention. The additional sensory input has led to a significant improvement in his behaviour.
