At Caudwell Children, our mission is to transform the lives of disabled and autistic children, empowering them to lead happy, active, and independent lives. This November, we were overwhelmed with gratitude as we brought the spirit of Christmas to Manchester with our festive fundraising lunch at the iconic Midland Hotel.
Thanks to the generosity of our incredible supporters, an amazing £7,757 was donated at Christmas in Manchester, which will go directly towards providing life-changing support for children and families across the UK.
A Festive Extravaganza
With the support of our sponsor, Halcion, we created an unforgettable afternoon filled with festive delights. Guests were greeted with a sparkling reception and treated to a delicious three-course lunch that set the perfect tone for the season.
The event was hosted by the fabulous Dani Wallace, known to many as The Queen Bee, whose warmth and energy brought everyone together in celebration and for an important purpose. It wasn’t just about the festive fun—this event was a powerful reminder of the difference we can make when we come together.
Making a Difference: The Shaping Futures Programme
One of the highlights of the day was the participation of our Shaping Futures students. This programme, which supports neurodivergent young people aged 16–25, is designed to equip them with the employability and life skills they need to thrive.
Statistics show that only 3 in 10 autistic adults of working age are in employment, as highlighted in the Buckland Review of Autism Employment. Initiatives like Shaping Futures aim to bridge this gap. Since its launch earlier this year, an impressive 75% of participants have progressed into positive destinations, including employment, education, or volunteer work.
The young people involved had the opportunity to showcase their progress, welcome guests and contribute to the event in meaningful ways. For many, this was a chance to step outside their comfort zones, gaining experiences they had never had before, such as traveling independently or enjoying a formal three-course meal.
Nicola Stanway, Employability Manager at Caudwell Children, reflected on the impact:
“Without the support of generous people like those who attended Christmas in Manchester, Shaping Futures couldn’t exist. It was amazing to see the young people experience things that most people take for granted every single day. Several of the students with us here today have never been on a train, they’ve never had a three-course meal, and just to see their confidence grow is incredible.”
A Day Filled with Joy and Generosity
The afternoon featured a dazzling performance by The Vinylettes, whose harmony of modern hits and timeless classics filled the room with joy. An exclusive auction added to the excitement, with prizes such as a signed Manchester United shirt, a Manchester City Family Tour, and luxury items from Clive Christian Perfume and Aspinal of London.
Every bid made and every donation received will help us create a brighter, more inclusive world for disabled and autistic children.
The True Spirit of Christmas
Christmas in Manchester wasn’t just an event; it was a celebration of potential, resilience, and generosity. The impact of Christmas in Manchester will be felt far beyond the Midland Hotel, helping us support more children, more families, and more futures.
Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, or supported us from afar. You are changing lives.
