As our festive celebration Christmas in Manchester draws closer, we are excited to introduce Harry, Odair, Bailey, Katie and Rhys – five dedicated students who have all been working hard to prepare for the magical event. The students will be working at the event as part of our Shaping Futures programme, which is designed to support neurodivergent individuals aged 16-25 by helping them to develop employability and life skills.
Throughout the past few weeks, Harry, Odair, Bailey, Katie and Rhys have been eagerly preparing to support Christmas in Manchester, learning essential skills at the same time. A key part of their preparation has been learning about professional dress codes and each student has selected appropriate outfits for the occasion. Another important focus has been planning their train journey to Manchester, becoming familiar with both train stations – a particularly exciting challenge for some, as it will be their first time travelling by train. The students have also discussed the busy and bustling environment of Manchester and strategies for managing the crowds and lively atmosphere. This planning has taught them what to expect, ensuring they feel comfortable and ready for the journey to Manchester.
The students have also carefully chosen their roles for the event, selecting tasks that align to their unique skills and experiences. Through rehearsals and role-play, they have built their confidence and they are all enthusiastic about creating a wonderful experience for the guests in their individual roles:
Meet Harry – Harry will welcome guests on arrival with a warm smile, guiding them to their tables and ensuring a smooth start to their evening.
Meet Odair – Odair will support the live auction, expertly spotting bids from guests and keeping the excitement going.
Meet Bailey – Bailey will hand out goody bags to guests, adding a special touch of festive cheer to their experience.
Meet Katie – Katie will collect pledges from guests, offering assistance and ensuring everyone knows how to contribute to the important cause.
Meet Rhys – Rhys will also warmly welcome guests as they arrive, guiding them to their tables. Through the Shaping Futures Programme, he has also started volunteering at Caudwell Children’s main reception, gaining confidence and valuable experience.
The students are thrilled to be part of this celebration and have put in tremendous effort to prepare and help to make it a spectacular day for everyone. Their passion, commitment, and growth throughout this process have been inspiring, and we cannot wait for them to shine on the big day!
