Nevaeh aged 8, is autistic and finds expressing herself and regulating her emotions difficult, so her mum turned to Caudwell Children for help.
When Nevaeh’s mum discovered the Autism Sensory Pack, she knew it would be the perfect gift for her daughter. Christmas can be an extremely overwhelming time for Nevaeh, with the unpredictability and change in routine often leading to meltdowns. Nevaeh’s Christmas is a little bit different, so instead of opening her presents on one day, she receives her presents slowly over the week.
The highlight of the Autism Sensory Pack for Nevaeh was the Dark Den and together with her mum they assembled it, filling it with her favourite toys, cushions and blankets, as she wanted to sleep inside the tent. For the first time in what felt like forever, they shared a valuable moment of connection – working together, talking, and laughing without the usual overwhelm.
Nevaeh’s mum said “I want to say a massive thank you to Caudwell Children and for making the process of applying for an Autism Sensory Pack so easy. My daughter is unable to attend school due to her needs and has felt really isolated. For the first time in such a long time she has helped me set something up and genuinely engaged with me. We actually had a conversation without her becoming overwhelmed. I honestly can’t thank the team enough.”
