Caudwell Children will be at  Naidex South  at the ExCeL exhibition centre in London on the 29th and 30th of September 2010. Please come along and visit us on stand G55.

How much of your income goes to the children?
With the Caudwell Group covering all management and administrative expenses, every single penny raised goes directly to the children. In addition we negotiate the price of every single item we purchase, and if we can get it for free, we do, which means on average we turn every £1 into £2.

Volunteering for Caudwell Children

I want to volunteer – what do I do now?

Think about how much time you are able to give up and what you would like to do in terms of the activity then complete the application form and send it to us.

How much time do I need to volunteer for?
This is completely up to you. You can commit to 4 hours per week or a whole day or more.

Can I volunteer from home?
Yes, you can. The main type of volunteering activity you can do from home is fundraising or organising your own event. You can request a fundraising pack either by returning the slip below or by phoning Caudwell Children on 01782 600443 .

Will I be interviewed?
We will ask you to come in for an informal chat rather than a formal interview. It gives you and us the opportunity to assess each other and ask any questions. The questions we would ask may include: Why are you interested in volunteering? What skills do you already have? What skills would you like to learn? What sort of volunteering work are you interested in? How much time can you offer?

Will I need references?
Because of the nature of our work you may be asked to provide references and a police disclosure for volunteer positions within the office and charity fundraising events. However if you wish to volunteer from home by fundraising in your own time then the need for references or police disclosure may not apply.

I'm already working, can I still volunteer?
We will work around the hours that you have available and we always need help at events most of which take place in the evening.

Will I get training?
We will never throw you in at the deep end and will provide you with all the help, support and training you need for your volunteer role. Although IT skills are useful they are by no means essential and basic training will be given if required.

Can I claim benefits while volunteering?
You can volunteer for as many hours as you want, as long as you still meet the conditions to get your benefit. For further information please visit www.dwp.gov.uk

Applications to Caudwell Children

Can you fund my project, organisation or charity?
No, Caudwell Children only makes donations to individual children, with the exception of our pledge to the NSPCC.

Can you donate an auction lot or raffle prize?
We do not keep a stock of either, and most of the items that we receive are used for our own fundraising.

Who is Tweaky?
Tweaky is our lovable mascot, who was drawn by Minnie Hawley in a competition to design a new logo for the Charity. Tweaky regularly appears in our Smile newsletter and has had many exiting adventures travelling around the world.

Can I use the Charity's logo?
Please contact our design department on 01782 600267 .

Do you fund individual cases?
Yes we do. To qualify for funding the child must be 18 or under, have an illness or disability and live in the UK.

Where do you have to live to qualify for funding?
Caudwell Children is now a national charity, so anyone who lives in the UK and fits our criteria can apply.

Do you means test?
We do not set a ceiling level for income, but we do look at the financial situation of the family. We take the household expenditure and the cost of the item requested into account. The only exception to this is for children in foster care.

What can you fund?
We make a huge variety of donations, which include therapy, treatment, dying wish holidays and specialised and mobility equipment. For further information please see the beneficiaries section for examples.

How do I apply?
All applications must be made on one of our application forms. These can be downloaded from this web site or you can request that we post one to you by calling 0845 3001348 and leaving your name and address, (please spell out any difficult words) or by emailing charity@caudwellchildren.com

Donating Money to Caudwell Children

How do I make a donation?
We are grateful for any donation, no matter what size. You can send us a personal cheque, or charity cheque made out to The Caudwell Children, to Caudwell Children, Minton Hollins, Shelton Old Road, Stoke on Trent. ST4 7RY. Alternatively you can pay by credit or debit card.

What is Payroll Giving?
Payroll Giving is a way of donating to Caudwell Children through your company's payroll department. Your donation will be made directly from your wages, so when you get them, the Charity donation will already have been deducted. Your payroll department will then send your donation on to us by whatever means is most appropriate for them. We benefit even more by getting the tax you would have paid on your chosen donation e.g. the Charity received £5.13 for a £4 net donation per month (for a normal rate tax payer).

What is Gift Aid?
If you pay tax and make a donation to Caudwell Children, we can claim Gift Aid from the Inland Revenue. This means that for every pound you donate, we get an extra 28 pence. To allow us to do this you must tick the appropriate Gift Aid box on your sponsorship form or relevant paperwork.

How can I leave a legacy – what wording should I use?
Leaving a legacy is simple – just inform your solicitor that you wish to leave a legacy to Caudwell Children and they will advise you on the correct wording to use.
